her stepsister Esmerelda came over. "Cinderella! Make the dinner and set the table right now! I can't wait any longer" said Esmerelda.
Cinderella did as she was told.
Then she went to play with her only friends, the animals who visited the house.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Her stepmother, Cecilia opened it. A man with a scroll walked in and handed it to her. It was an invitation to the Prince's ball. He wanted to find a wife.
Esmerelda told Cinderella "I want a beautiful blue outfit for the ball. Make it snappy!"
Cinderella made the dress very quickly for Esmerelda.
Then her other stepsister, Bertha, told Cinderella "I want a black outfit, and hurry up!"
Cinderella did as she was told and got a nice black outfit for Bertha.
Then her stepmother told Cinderella to get her a red outfit.
Cinderella made the red outfit and thought it looked quite nice.
The three of them went to the ball, leaving Cinderella alone in the house.
Cinderella went into the garden and started to weep.
Then Cinderella's fairy godmother suddenly appeared.
She tapped Cinderella on the shoulder,
and Cinderella's rags turned into a beautiful white outfit, perfect for the ball.
Cinderella's godmother tapped a mouse on the back,
and it turned into a beautiful white stallion.
She tapped an owl,
and it turned into a coachman.
Finally, she tapped a pumpkin,
and it turned into a carriage.
Cinderella started off when her godmother told her "You must be back by midnight or everything will turn back the way it was before."
They arrived at the Prince's castle.
Meanwhile, at the ball, the prince was dancing with Esmerelda.
He saw Cinderella arrive and stopped what he was doing.
He started to dance with her. They danced for hours and hours.
Suddenly the clock started to strike midnight. Cinderella fled out the door. She lost one glass slipper as she went.
Cinderella realized everything had turned back. She started to walk home.
When she got home she started sweeping as if she had been doing chores the whole time.
Then Esmerelda and her stepmother came in. They told Cinderella there was a mysterious girl at the ball who left just at midnight. The prince danced with her all night but he didn't even catch her name.
The next morning there was a knock at the door. The prince and one of his men came in carrying a glass slipper. They asked Esmerelda to try it on. It didn't fit.
Then Bertha tried, but it didn't fit her either. The prince said "Oh no! I'll never find my bride. Are there any more women in this house?" Bertha said "No, this is it."
Cinderella said "I'm here!" she came out and sat down. She tried on the slipper.
Then Cinderella took the other slipper from her pocket and put it on too. Cinderella and the prince agreed to get married the next day.
They had a wonderful wedding.
Cinderella and the Prince left in a carriage pulled by a horse. They lived happily ever after.
